It's been reported on the Lancashire Rock Revival FB page that there is currently no access to  Thorn Crag and  Windy Clough due to the ongoing moorland fires.

This may affect other crags in the Trough of Bowland, too.

I'm only relaying second-hand news, but a heads up in case, like me, you were thinkiing to cycle all the bloody way there, so you don't end up disappointed.

Discussion of this, I'll leave to others... though I'll just drop this here: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jun/27/moors-grouse-shooting...

Closed from last Thursday until Wednesday of this week. Reasons not given, but it was apparently open over the weekend so I'd have thought more likely to be grouse-related than fire-related.

Thanks for the link - it's useful.

Two people separately reported on FB that they were approached by "a gamekeeper" or "a ranger" who explained that there was no access due to concern about moorland fires during this heatwave.

In reply to C Witter:

Is the area the subject of a pre-CRoW access agreement? the Barden Moor estate is, and therefore restrictions aren't usually shown on the open access site - very annoying!
