Hi there

I'm looking to get my partner a Scottish climbing book for Christmas.. I've been looking online at the reviews and I am still none the wiser. If I'm honest I don't really know what makes a good climbing book so any recommendations welcome! I think he could climb about 5-6A and he is into sports climbing and bouldering. 

I was looking at getting Scottish Climbing Vol 1 ... has anyone read this? Some of the reviews say there is not enough detail in the book. But surely part of the fun is looking it up further and researching before you go?

I haven't checked for best price or anything, just grabbed the first links for these.

If the book you found was Scottish Rock by Gary Latter it would be pretty rubbish for your partner as it's mostly focused on Trad climbing (it's a pretty good guide for that but has much less detailed coverage of bouldering/ sport than the books linked above).

What sort of book are you looking for ? Those mentioned so far are guide books but there are others about climbing in Scotland or about various climbers. For example 'The Great Mountain Crags of Scotland' might be of more lasting value - I think there's a review on this site somewhere.

Given the grade you said he climbs, the guide "Scottish Sport 7a Max" Might be worth considering also.

I re-read it in early lockdown whilst missing my first ever Scottish winter in 38 years....its such a classic and so beautifully written!
