Just watched this:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0004y5s

Absolutely astonishing documentary.

Not a TV person particularly, but thought it would appeal to those in this parish.

thanks, just watched it and it is indeed gripping, I knew nothing of 'sat' diving before this. These boys truly earn their wage packet.

Thanks for the heads up. One to watch!

Having read the description I think I'll give it a miss. That looks like the sort of thing that will give me a panic attack in the middle of the night.

Eurghhhhhh...

Like Touching the Void, a film where you know the outcome,  but still manages to keep you hooked, great stuff.

In reply to Cobra_Head:

Interestingly, we didn’t know the outcome.

We did assume he was going to be ok based on the way it was delivered, but we weren’t quite sure.

It’s gripping.  My sister watched it, just before her son went to do his first set of professional diving qualifications - maybe not the best idea.

I was pretty sure we knew, but obviously my memory playing tricks.

shows what I know.

Superb. Thanks 👍

We went to the directors screening (with q&a after) last year in Aberdeen.

As you can imagine-half the audience were from the ‘local’ commercial diving industry-the sequence of events defy all logic

An incredible story eh!

OP plyometrics 08 Sep 2020
In reply to Tobes:

That must have been a great way to watch it. Suspect it must have been super gripping for those watching it who were in the industry.

In reply to plyometrics:

Bloody hell.  How intense?

 Tobes 08 Sep 2020
In reply to plyometrics:

Well....it was interesting certainly. I’ve got a pretty solid working knowledge of sat diving and DSV (dive support vessel) operations though I’m no longer in that industry.

There was a hesitance and palpable reluctance to apply any blame (marginal weather conditions to rely on the dynamic positioning system alone etc) which is the call of the dive supervisor- the lack of experience with manually controlling/overriding the ships bridge and so on - there was more in what wasn’t asked than what was if you get me
