Quite a tricky one seeing as comedy can span all the genre of the movie industry but what would you put in your top two films?

For me Blazing Saddles has to be up there in my top two.

Finest, or funniest? I get a lot more out of rewatching Four Weddings... or Hannah and Her Sisters than I do out of rewatching Airplane, but there's no question which makes me laugh more.

Blazing Saddles? Erm, it was funny, but not *that* funny.

Annie Hall is my favourite comedy film of all time. Watching Woody Allen trying to kill the spider in the bath is both wonderful slapstick and very well-observed comedy.

Not strictly a comedy, but I can't watch Gregory's Girl without tears rolling down my face. So many small lines that are pure comedy gold:
"What about Alan, do you think he's still a virgin?"
"No, he's been in the school orchestra for over a year now..."

I've never understood why people find Withnail and I funny. I tried watching it and it left me stone cold. I went out to make a cup of coffee, came back and looked at it, asked myself "Can I be bothered with this?", and answered "nope".

If there's anything funny about watching whiny pretentious Londoners trapped in a remote countryside that they don't understand, you've probably already seen it if you live near St Andrews

Definitely one of my favourites - the dinner scene at the end with the battle raging outside is priceless.

Other than that Monty Pythons Holy Grail is hugely funny.

It's a struggle to get it down to two but I would guess my favourites are Hot Fuzz and Slapshot with Withnail just outside the medals for the moment (seen it too many times just lately).

There's some real duds mentioned above. Four Weddings... Blues Brothers! Watching either would place me on the inner circle of Hell.

My fav would be Galaxy Quest.

My fave ten in no particular order:

Python's Life of Brian and Holy Grail, Catch 22, Mash, Dr Stangelove, Blues Brothers, Clerks, Little Miss Sunshine, Some Like It Hot, Withnail.

Honourable mentions to: Dark Star, the best of the Gillian, Coen Brothers, Woody Allen, Reiner and Brookes movies and the old black and white classics from late Ealing back to Chaplin.

The Blues Brothers is at best a "fun" film, but barely any of it is laugh-out-loud funny, is it?

Those of you have nominated it - can tell you me why you think it is one of the funniest every film comedies?

I'd like to say that I find the majority of stuff by Mel Brooks to be about as funny as being forced to eat my own faeces, and I'm amazed that when I tell people this, they look at me as if I'd just wiped a fairly large portion of said material under their noses.

I think Dumb and Dumber and Stir Crazy are proper laugh out loud movies.

Which bits though? Seriously. I am interested to know which scenes in The Blues Brothers make people really LAUGH.
I mean, the thwacking of "Ruprecht's" legs in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a good example of a proper comedic scene you can laugh at. The Blues Brothers doesn't have anything like that, does it? At best, there's the Mother Superior smacking their hands. The "Rawhide" scene is FUN, but not that FUNNY. etc. etc.

And for the umpteenth time: Withnail and I is a tragedy, not a comedy!

Comedies which are the best movies would include Galaxy Quest and Gregory's Girl.

Comedy movies that still make me laugh even though I have seen them often: Carry on Up the Khyber (even the characters' names are awesome). Anything by Laurel and Hardy. Anything by the Marx Brothers.

Took the kids last Sunday and giggled most of the way through it.

Admittedly not the finest (which has to be Life of Brian) but worth a mention.

Another worthy contender is "The Tin Men" with Richard Dreyfus and Danny Devito.

Woody Allan? If so that's one of my all time favourite films and it never seems to get much credit when people are talking about his work. The scene with the Orgasmatron has made me cry with laughter. Bananas from the same period is also excellent.

I laugh very easily but I just don't get Withnail. There are one or two funny lines in it but it's one of the dullest films ever. I've tried to watch it and like it and failed, several times.

OK, not many, but there's a few amusing bits.

It's not a stunningly funny film IMO, but not utterly devoid of humour.

And W&I is a tragicomedy. And No Country for Old Men is not based on Charley Varrick.
