Just starting to plan a 3 week trip to USA for summer 2020.

Only firm plan is to go to Zion national park in Utah but anything else is possible. More keen on country than going to the city....people at work have suggested California, Texas and South Carolina so far! I won't be climbing but always drawn to hills! I was thinking of driving a lot but also happy to take internal flights.

Any recommendations from anyone?!

In reply to abr1966: Colorado and New Mexico.  Driving down the Rockies N to S and ending in Houston was a good trip

If you have not been to Yosemite, go there, you can tie that in with Zion / Grand Canyon / Death Valley

Have a look at the current Michael Portaloo TV series on Canadian railways and if that doesn't make you want to fly to Quebec then jump on the train to Vancouver, nothing else will.

Does this trip have anything to do with any sort of climbing?

Fly to Vegas, rent a car and do a big circular road trip heading northeast through all of Utah's national parks, up to Rocky Mountain NP in Colorado, then south through the Rockies via the Million Dollar Highway till you hit the desert. Head back to Vegas via the Valley of The Gods and the Grand Canyon.

Vegas
Zion
Bryce Canyon
Canyonlands/Moab/Arches NP
Rocky Mountain NP/Boulder/Fort Collins
Ouray/Silverton/Million Dollar Highway/San Juan Forest
Valley of the Gods
Grand Canyon
Vegas

That would be about 2000 miles of driving and give you some of the US's best national parks, scenic roads, mountains, deserts, canyons, hot springs and breweries
