How would you like to define an overhang (as opposed to a cave, say) and how would you like to measure it?

Maybe the 2500foot long roof crack the Wide Boyz have just done? (AKA the M5 bridge near Exeter)

That's what I kept telling myself as I retreated!

Mt Thor?

The mountain is located 46 km (29 mi) northeast of Pangnirtung and features Earth's greatest vertical drop of 1,250 m (4,101 ft), with the cliff overhanging at an average angle of 15 degrees from vertical.

I'll admit I gibbered about a bit before committing...

Seems that the longer you take, the bigger the crowd at the bottom!

I climbed Le Toit de Bournillon in the Vercors back in 1997.

It's quite impressive. 180m long, A1, 5 pitches, all horizontal.

Got the usernames mixed up and read this as a response to your own suggestion of Ms Ferrari!

Is this at the Grotte de Bournillon? I had a caving trip into there in the early nineties. Mega cave! So big it got a bit boring at times.

Without doing the basic trigonometry that sounds like a lot of horizontal distance out from the base of the cliff.

Biggest horizontal roof would be an interesting one too. It'd be a cave somewhere so for the interests of climbing let's limit it to horizontal roofs on roughly vertical cliffs.

That's it. I've never been into the Bournillon system but I worked for two full summers in the Vercors and got on some other wicked climbing and caving trips. I was friendly with a local guide, Bernard Gravier and he dragged me up (and across) some amazing things. Just opposite is the Paroi Rouge with the 18 pitch Devil's Hooks.

If we're not limited to surface overhangs then the roof of the main stream passage in the Grotte de Gournier must be one of the biggest in France.

You're all wrong, it's the Glyder Fawr cantilever stone.

I missed that! When did they do it? Didn’t seem to get a mention on their YouTube channel.

I can’t see any haul bags in the photos… I hope they didn’t cheat and have external assistance with the logistics of moving camp.

I’ll be curious to see their portaledge set-up.

Yes that was great fun with an underground camp.

I too was intrigued to know whether they brought the three Ps - pig, portaledge and poop-tube.

But either way, it seems like a glorious and magnificent undertaking.
