Hi thinking of doing some cycling along the Solway coast as it look scenic and flat. Thinking of making a circuit taking in Caldbeck to Blindcrake via Bewaldeth. Is this a nice area for cycling and not too hilly.

In reply to J1234: Yes, lovely cycling, but from the slowly coast to  Caldbeck is definitely hilly (not mountainous, but some good old pulls and quite exposed). Avoiding A591 (not awful) and A595 (awful) is easy and recommended.

Hi

Just received notice that the road from Bewaldeth to the bridge over the Derwent (part of the Reivers cycle route) will be closed from 30th July for 5 weeks.

You will need to turn right up the A591 then left down the road through Sunderland then through Blindcrake. Just as enjoyable.

Or you could miss out Bewaldeth go from Uldale down to Castle Inn via Bassenthwaite village. Then Castle Inn over Ouse Bridge, taking time to stop at the Lakes distillery and have bite to eat at the Bistro then continue to Isel bridge and up to Blindcrake taking time to try and find the contact between the Skiddaw slates and the Borrowdale volcanics in the stream leading up to Blindcrake (though why you want to finish at Blindcrake is a bit confusing - there’s no pub there you know

Ah but you could always call in at the Barn for a brew or a glass of home made cider!
