There are lots of options on Airbnb and Booking.com. The cheapest option is to use one of the self-catering multi-person dormitory rooms on the latter. Otherwise Cham tends to be expensive. But you do get a free pass for the bus and train and a reasonably cheap place to store kit if you want to bivouac or hut.
In reply to fifthsunset: the place I rent in winter is 1200€ a month and located in Les Pelerins. Can very comfortably accommodate 2/3, and at a pinch 4. It has everything you could possibly need and the landlord is an incredibly knowledgeable mountaineer.
