Hi,

Going on a family holiday to Llaithddu, Newtown next week. I'm currently going through the list on the crag map but wondered if anyone could recommend a crag or two to check out?

The kids will be climbing too so needs a fairly quick walk-in with some friendly single pitch climbs. Happy to drive up to an hour-ish.

Cheers

Craig y Fan near Llanidloes might fit the bill, but due to an unfriendly local farmer, the walk-in's a bit long-winded so perhaps not so clever with kids. Routes are friendly though and all can be top-roped.

Craig Cnwch in the Elan Valley is another possibility but it only has very limited stuff below VS. Creigiau Llandeglau on the A44 has a greater range of grades and might fit the bill. Both of these have a relatively straightforward and quick walk-in; Cnwch being only 10 mins fron the Elan Valley visitor's centre, which also has a great kids playground and cafe.

A new definitive guide to the area has just been published and perhaps it'd be best to invest in a copy:  https://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/book.php?id=1919

If you do an internet search, you'll find a list of suppliers as it's probably too soon as yet for it to be on sale locally.

HTH

Thanks Dave, that's brilliant.  The new guide looks perfect. Will see if I can get a copy delivered to the cottage we're staying in.
