Just as a warning to those in South Wales, Glamorgan University Climbing Club will be running freshers trips to Morlais Quarry on the 11th and the 18th of October, from 10am-6pm with around 25 individuals at the quarry at any given time during the 2 days.
We have chosen Moralais Quarry for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is not as popular as many of the other local crags and quarries, and as such we hope not to inconvenience as many climbers as we would if we dominated the entirety of Trebanog or the gap for instance.
Secondly, Morlais Quarry is about as polished as is possible for rock to be, and as such, our use of this quarry is unlikely to have any further impact on the rock.
Environmental implications have been considered, and plans have already been put in place to minimize impact. All ropes will be padded, freshers will be supervised by experienced members and encouraged to minimize noise. We will also be informing all attendees that negligent damage to the environment (such as intentional rock damage and litter) is unacceptable and any such actions will result in said person being asked to leave the club, and good ethical and environmental practice will be actively encouraged throughout the day.
If you do happen to be at Morlais that day, I apologize in advance for any impact we may have on you, but we are taking every step to minimize disturbance to the local climbing scene. Please bear with us in the introductory period, and if we are using a line you wish to climb, just ask to be pointed in the direction of Ryan, Josh, or Zack and we will be happy to have a chat with you and work around your plans.
Thanks,
President
