I've just finished writing 2 blog guides to some excellent routes in the Dolomites, both at a very modest grade and ideal for alpine beginners or people to warm up for something bigger, or indeed if you are looking for something facing south which you can climb from now until early November.

Via delle Guide at Cinque Torri is perfect for your first route in the range, although it can get crowded in high season as it's an absolute classic of the area.

Via della Rampa del Torso is much longer and on a serious face, but again at an extremely modest grade. It has bolted belays and so if needs be you can retreat. The approach is trivial and the descent is along a reasonable although precipitous path.

Good write up.

Coming off of Ciavazes I’m fairly sure it’s 2 abseils with the 2nd one not immediately obvious?

Yes, it's not the easiest to find, but you kind of get funneled into the right spot in the end... The other alternative is that if you know where to look and you're damned careful, there is an abseil piste from the top of the Civazes Via delle Guide... not something I'd recommend for those of a nervous disposition though as getting down to the edge from the terrace is somewhat exposed...

I like the belayer in ski boots on Cinque Torri.

In reply to Niblet: Haha - yeah it was a blast... lift up, climb, then ski down in the sun
