We didn't go because, if there are advice from the government, then we weren't insured, so when we said, "well can we claim on the insurance for not going" they told us, "well you can go, the government aren't stopping you going, just advising you not to. If they advise you not to, our insurance doesn't cover you!"
So catch 22, no insurance, but not stopped from going, so no refunds.
There are some specialist insurances out there, but "normal" climbing insurance doesn't cover you, and it's not just for covid, if the advice is not to go and you do, you're not insured for anything.
