Italy and Sardinia (campervan security question)

I've been advised (by an Italian actually) to only park in CCTV car parks and campsites on Sardinia. Can anyone vouch for that?

Question about Italy in general. We're not going to frequent any cities but do you have to watch out when parking in climbing areas at all?

Any tips would be welcome, or areas to avoid in a camper.

Cheers!

We had our van more or less emptied by thieves in Sperlonga on the Amalfi coast. (Though for some crags in the area you can park in a café provided you eat/drink there before or after climbing).

Sometimes you can park more safely in villages (e.g. Grotti), tourist attractions (e.g. Toraino) or at the foot of the crag (e.g Ferrentillo)

Northern and mountain areas of Italy such as Val Pennevaire feel less risky in general - but you can get unlucky anywhere.

Re Sardinia, we last took our van there 15 years ago. We wild camped without problems but things may have changed since.

Hope you have a great trip. It can be a worry when you've got your life in a campervan but it's well worth it!

Did 10 days in a very obvious rented camper on sardinia with a mix of sites and wild camping. Had no issues at all

Anywhere touristy on the med, security will be a nightmare in tourist season - gangs just travel up and down liberating everything they can find. I had the van done in Finale - stayed too long into the season. You could track the level of car theft by the numbers of cars driving around with plastic sheets where the windows should be
