Kalymnos in December

Thinking of going to Kalymnos for the first 2 weeks of December, but a bit concerned about the weather.

Have checked weather statistics at https://www.holiday-weather.com/kalymnos/averages/

It seems it should be warm enough, but with a significant possibility of rain (13 days per month).
But not sure if that is that normally short showers, or lengthy/heavy rain which can wipe out a day or more.

Also, is there enough accommodation open, and are there many restaurants open in Massouri?

Thanks for any suggestions.

We have stayed in Kalymnos for the 1st couple of weeks of December for most of the past 10 years - and twice right through the winter. The weather has usually been great, though the days are short and the nights quite cool. Rain is rare, though you do occasionally get a strong cold northerly wind blowing for a few days. Masouri is pretty much shut, though Panos sometimes stays open as does one of the supermarkets - can't remember its name.

We stop round the corner in Myrties, a bit sunnier and has Stalas supermarket which stays open all year. Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks Chris, very helpful.

I've emailed the places I've stayed in before, and Airbnb seems to have lots of availability in the Masouris area.

When you say Masouri is pretty much shut, does that mean restaurants (Panos seems to be apartments and restaurant).

Does the Telendos boat still run (and are we likely to have to pay the 30 euro fee between the 2 of us as there'll be no other passengers?)

Just a couple of other points. Is it easy to get hold of:

a) a scooter in Masouri/Myrties at that time, and

b) a room in Kos on our departure day for the early flight to Athens

Panos is open most of the winter as they live there, but they do often close for a week or two - I think all of the rest are shut.

The taxi-boat to Telendos runs all the time, (€2) - if you want to go round to Irox you will have to book a 'captain' (ask at the restaurant on the right) and pay the full whack.

You will need to pick a scooter up in Pothia - try Automarket near the ferry port (kalymnoscars@gmail.com).

> b) a room in Kos on our departure day for the early flight to Athens

We have used in Katerina & Efi in Mastichari regularly (efikaterina@hotmail.com) - open all year, best pre book,

Chris

Thanks again Chris. Are you going this December?

In reply to Alex Pryor:

Sadly, and for rather complicated reasons, we won't be there this December,

Manifesto is planning to stay open till New Year. The bar by the harbour in Myrties will be open too.

Just remember if it's above Beaufort 5, the ferries to/from Kos may not run.
