Hello!

I'm moving up to the Lake District in February, right near Lake Windemere, and don't know what guidebook to get for the surrounding area. I've found many books for the Lakes all covering various different areas.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Merry Christmas!
Cheers, Oli.

FRCC Lake District selected climbs is as good a one to start with as any.

If you are living near Windermere the forthcoming Langdale Guide (Due about Easter time)will be all but essential as it is packed with great routes close to home. Also the new (2012) South lakes Limestone Guide from FRCC has plenty of options for indifferent weather days.

Hope this helps

In reply to olisimmons: I'd have thought if you're moving to live in the area there's no point in buying the selected guide. Good as it is you'll run out of routes to do if you're climbing regularly. Also, selected guides tend to create queues while perfectly worthwhile routes nearby are empty. Buy the definitive F&RCC guidebooks, even if it takes a year or two to build up complete coverage. The new Langdale guide, which will be your local area, is due out in less than six months.
