For information the belay ledge on ‘Dedication’ at ‘Lower Falcon Crag’ collapsed yesterday (19.04.09) whilst the second was pulling on to the ledge. Ropes where cut in the fall and he decked on to the scree. Keswick mountain rescue attended and the second was airlifted to hospital. Thankfully the leader was saved by his anchor and was able to ab down. One rope is currently stuck insitu and care must obviously be taken if anyone tries to remove it; or climb near it.

Just for the record, the climber who fell is currently in Carlisle Hospital but is expected to be released today. He has a number of injuries but none of them are particularly serious you'll all be glad to hear. The lead climber who as stated was saved by his belay is back at work this (Monday 20th April) morning and has a couple of minor unspecified injuries. Both climbers have vast experience and couldn't have foreseen this accident on a popular route.

I have been in contact with both climbers this morning so this information is straight from the horses' mouth! I'm sure further details will be forthcoming but the main thing is that the lads are both safe.

Let's wish them both a speedy recovery...

In reply to Phil S: Three of us we sitting on a flake-ledge, 50m up a route on Beinn Eighe yesterday. The only gear available for the belay was between the flake and the wall.

I was quite glad when Neil started up Pitch 3 as at least we had some gear anchoring us to the wall.

You just never know.

Hope these guys get well quickly.
