Has anyone done much sport climbing near Barcelona?

I am heading there in a few weeks and would be good to do some bolt clipping if there is anything worth doing nearby.

Could potentially hire a car for a few days but don't want to be driving for hours.

Cheers all.

This isn't going to be very helpful I feel but years ago I climbed somewhere near Barcelona and on the coast (like, right next to the sea). The base of the crap was a sort of flat gravel area that was the top of a railway tunnel. It had some pretty long routes with cool climbing on featured limestone. But it was fairly polished. I think it was just west of Barcelona but I don't remember the crag name unfortunately.

Yeah there's quite a lot in the area, never done any there myself but a friend of mins has a few times.  I think all the deets of the crags can be found on the ClimAround app https://climbaround.com/app/

Catalunya has some of the best sport climbing on the planet! Many of the crags in the Lleida and Tarragona areas are accessible within about a two hour drive from Barcelona and are well covered by Rockfax and the POD guides.

If you are looking for something a bit nearer, then I'd add a +1 recommendation for the ClimAround app mentioned above, which features some of the more famous spots above plus a bunch of crags much closer to Barcelona - not a patch on Siurana but well worth a visit. It also has the benefit of being free! Sansuies is an example with about 30 routes across the grades and a very sunny aspect:

Another option that hasn't been mentioned yet is Montserrat, if you fancy a bit of conglomerate - and you might even be able to get there via public transport.

Check out the blog for pics and beta on about 50 crags in Catalunya:

Enjoy! Cheers, Dom
