Hi there, was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for campsites within an hour of Nottingham to take my 2 kids. Would be good if the site allows vans and tents. The site we've stayed in most is probably North lees which we love but it would be nice to have a change.

Would be nice if it had small playground or an interesting walk nearby but not essential. Pub or shop nearby would be nice too. I have have looked at a couple which are closed for winter already!

Funnily enough I was shown a website today for this site near Mansfield which is a Scout site but has  public camping  - lots to do but not sure how much longer they're open for https://www.walesbyforest.org.uk/public-camping/

Gunthorpe has one...a pub and good river walks...cant speak for how good it is but the ratings seem OK. A few miles away is some nice countryside walking especially around Epperstone and Lambley (with the interesting 'dumbles' and the recommended Woodlark pub). Nearby Burton Joyce has The Nelson, an excellent food pub oppose a kiddies playground. Over the river you have stilton country, some amazing pubs and Belvoir Castle and its woodland escarpment walking, with views out over Notts..

If for whatever reason you want to stay near Nottingham itself the Holm peirepoint (the watersports centre) campsite is good (in a big family  oriented campsite sort of way) Don't know if it closes for winter.

Barn farm campsite in birchover always used to be good and had a small playground, https://www.barnfarmcamping.com/ , not been for a few years though.
Rowtor Rocks, Robin Hoods Stride, Stanton Moor all nearby for entertaining walks. There are a couple of pubs nearby too.

Some excellent pubs in Birchover, and that general area,  unless covid did for them.
