Bivvy at the Aiguille des Grands Montets

Anyone done this? Is it still allowed?

What is the ground like around the station? Rocks? Flat?

In summer, would one be ok with just one Thermarest and a down bag?

Bivvy bag required?

There's not a lot of space immediately around the station, other than the flat bit at the bottom of the Petit Verte slope. I don't think they'd appreciate you digging a snow scoot there. A Bivi bag is a definite need in summer, and a reasonably warm maggot.

Why do you want to bivi there specifically? Is being first on the Petite Verte really that important?

I seem to recall there being a small shed below the 2nd lift station (on the ridge, maybe an hour from the station). In late june it was open and usable. Ski mats are very comfy! And even if locked there would be a wooden porch to sleep on.

Maybe someone else can back me up if they know the area well?

Aways have a bivi bag!

We bivvied on a perfectly flat rock, perched incongruously on the glacier just beneath the Couturier Couloir this August. Roughly an hour's easy walk (big crevasses, though) The rick was made for the job! Big enough for at least 5 people to bivvy in perfect comfort. When we started up the route, two Spanish guys caught up with us. They said they'd bivvied in the toilet at the top station at the G. Montet, and there was even a heater! Of course, no guarantees that that's always possible, and our rock has quite possibly moved...

Next to the wooden shed there is also the ski patrols shed next to the hearse chairlift...quite the bivi spot!

In summer there is a flat rock area just a few minutes along the rocks just past the descent to the Argentiere. Fits at least three people.
You only need bivvy bag if weather is dubious, there is any snow on the rock or your sleeping bag needs a boost.
