Can anyone suggest an informational guide book that covers winter lead climbing and setting up anchors for beginners? Are any of the ones below worth buying?

I've not read the rockfax book but the other two are good, the mountain training book being the most UK specific.

Setting up top roping style anchors isn't particularly common in the UK and doesn't really differ from summer unless you are using winter specific anchors.

I've no idea of your experience level, but my advice to anyone starting winter climbing is to find someone experienced to learn from, this could be a mate, club member or a paid instructor. There are lots more skills needed to move around the mountains safely in the winter than in summer, such as navigation, avalanche awareness and planning, crampon technique, ice axe arresting and that's before you even start climbing.

Well put.

I suggest getting in touch with someone like Plas y Brenin, or Glen More lodge. Many years ago I had good experience of learning logically with PYB both with two of us being tutored, but also when our club engaged a couple of instructors out in the hills in Snowdonia. The same was true of Alpine climbing both practicing in Wales, and then in the Alps.

I have the rockfax one, it's a good read, with a scattering of interesting anecdotes among the informational stuff. I wouldn't rely on just a book though, but it certainly won't hurt to read one.
