Hi I'm considering the alpine phud as my first bouldering pad. Would this pad be suitable and large enough for bouldering on my own? Don't want to spend too much on a pad as it'll just be for occasional use and for the odd tricky start on trad routes but still want something half decent

Thanks,
Mark

The phud seems good for a standard bouldering mat. After using it for around 6 months it has split down one side from reasonable use. A thicker mat will give you more confidence.

Although it is half the price of similar designs, which makes it a no brainer for a first mat.

Hey Mark - We recommend the Phud as a beginners mat and for those of us that boulder occasionally and don't need the larger surface area. It also works great as a second mat to accompany a larger one.

megamonkeyman - drop us an e-mail and we will get the mat back here for a free repair. It should have lasted longer than 6 months.
