I'm looking for some half ropes and there is a good deal on mammut meteors 8.3mm.

Everyone raves about the mammut genesis but I can't find any reviews on the meteors at all. As far as I can tell they're missing the Teflon coating and are slightly thinner than the genesis but otherwise do the same job.

Anyone used them? Anything I'm missing?

I've got them and like them just fine. They are exactly the same as the genesis except the coating. The difference in diameter is only due to the lack of coating rather than anything else and isn't really noticeable either way.

Great, I might pick up a pair. Cheers.

I also have these. Found them excellent so far. Light and durable, bought second hand and look brand new. Also haven't had any noticeable problems with tangling.

The teflon coating on the genesis is on every strand of the rope and has more benefits than just repelling water (lowers rope wear, allows fibres of rope to better move over each other better absorbing impacts etc)
