Hi,

I have just noticed that my rucksack has a musty smell, abit like my tent.

The rucksack is an Osprey and its only a year old and has no sign of mould.

Any suggestions on how to remove the smell?

I have tried a fabric spray and hung it on the washing line to dry but you can still smell it.

Thanks

Homebrew steriliser solution/ Milton fluid, something like that?

A 10 minute soak in 50% Vinegar is quite good for disgusting running clothes. You could try that, but how safe for proofed materials I would not like to say. This will kill common bugs such as Pseudomonas, and some fungi such as Malassezia, but is less helpful for Staphylococcus.

Distilled vinegar is better than malt to get rid of the smell of vinegar afterwards

Just give it a good scrub with liquid soap/nikwax and hose down in the shower then stick it out to dry properly. Usually does the trick for me.

Thanks for the help.

I was a bit apprehensive using vinegar and Milton solution on my new rucksack,so came across this.

I soaked the ruckie in the bath for 30 mins, then rinsed it and hung out to dry and it smells fab.

Would defo recommend it.

Stick it in the washing machine. Take any frame out first.

A more useful suggestion from me is using bicarbonate of soda

Try putting it in a freezer for a day, then dry it out completely.

I've just finished dealing with same problem in a motorcycle tankbag containing my waterproofs.

Based on this, I suggest you don't visit friends who own a kitten they call P!ssy Missy.
