Yeah, having read the Petzl guide, I assumed top-holing was the recommended behaviour, and it's certainly safer as the krab should jam on a safety knot if the cam is opened or fails.

Toproping traverses doesn't sound very fun to me anyway - will avoid.

Unfortunately I won't get a chance to try different devices before I order. I read a caver's review that said the new croll is slightly worse than the old (gets stuck, IIRC), and then new basic is just as good as the old one, although they suggest it might not be as durable (

From a quick read, you can modify the device to prevent this from happening -

Thing is, I've never needed a pulley and doubt I will soon, whereas an ascender would be quite handy, so unless the microtraxion is easier to toprope with I don't think I'm interested.
