Looking for a new alpine pack around 45l. I run very warm so looking for good ventilation as a base requirement. I currently have a Lowe alpine, mountain attack which is a great pack.

In our review of 35-45 litre packs last year, the Osprey Mutant stood out for ventilation:

I must admit I have read that article but breezed past osprey as I had heard they were bad at keeping the weather out. But that looks a good contender and a reasonable price, thanks

Got an Opsrey Mutant, it's great. Worth mentioning their free "pack sizing" app, which works really well to make sure you get the correct back length.

Ventilation vs absorbing snow/water?

Depends how much you plan to use it for hard alpine climbing?

I think in the case of the mutant there would be even less absorption than most packs because it seems to be solid channeled pad rather than soft foam.
