Is the Mammut Serenity really triple rated? I know the original UKC review said so, but I can find no mention of it on their website or anywhere else beside UKC. I wrote Mammut about this a while back, but haven't heard from them.

You'd think Mammut would be quite clear about this if they really did go through the trouble and considerable cost of developing and certifying it as a triple, rather than just single.

Hi Supos,

Sorry that you didnt get a reply from Mammut - did you go direct to Switzerland. To put your mind at ease I can tell you that the Serenity fulfills all rope types acc. to EN892. Tested as a half rope the impact force is 6.2kN. We will have more information on new batches of packaging that should come through later on in the year. Seems to have been a paperwork error somewhere along the line - between production and marketing.

I guess I'll be looking at the Beal, Millet or Edelrid ropes though, I certainly won't be buying Mammut as long as you are supporting Lama's behaviour in Patagonia.

You'd think you guys had learned your lesson from the Christian Stangl fiasco - you're only hurting yourselves by sponsoring these douchebags.

In which case, I can recommend the Beal Joker if you want one rope that can do everything. I've used mine a fair amount over the last nine months, ice climbing in Norway, sport and trad climbing (including top roping little kids) in the UK and and Sweden, and in the last few months - a fair amount of ice climbing in Finland, both as a single and a double. It still looks very good - just some minimal fluffing in a couple of spots probably rubbing during a fall. The dry treatment seems effective as well. Of course its a compromise - heavier than a specialist half rope, not as hard wearing as a fat single etc. But overall I'm really happy with how it is wearing.

I wouldn't swap my Revelation for any other rope & might even try the Infinity when I have to renew it
