The conditions today will be very different from the conditions on Friday, after it's been raining for 24 hours or so

Have a look at the Fell topp assessors report. Looks a bit chilly!

I went over Helvellyn, Nethermost, and Dollywagon Pike from Wythburn today. It was tough going above 600m, with deep snow covering paths and making navigation difficult. There was also a strong wind and dense clag adding to the fun.

I met a few folk, at the summit shelter, who had ascended Striding Edge. I wouldn't have fancied it myself, in the conditions... I met the same folk again, shortly after they'd left me, and failed to locate Swirral Edge due to concerns about the cornice conditions.

... It's currently pelting it down with rain, here in Ambleside, so it's anybody's guess what tomorrow will bring.

There's currently a snowy view of the west side of Helvellyn from Tuesday on the week-archive section of Tony Richards' excellent Lakeland Cam site (scroll down a bit): https://www.lakelandcam.co.uk/this_week/thisweek.html

But as others have said, it's about to turn quite a lot milder.

100+ miles further north, but breakable crust above 600m on the Ochils today - quite hard work.
