We’re on holiday in the lakes and was thinking of going on a run up Hellvellyn (tomorrow). Has anyone been up there recently; is the much ice / snow? Is striding edge doable? Don’t have boots/crampons. I know it’s not too much of a pain to go and check but it would be good to have some knowledge of current conditions. Appreciated

Things change from day to day, but a friend who was up Helvellyn on Friday didn't need ironmongery although said there were a few icy bits needing care when coming down the Lower Man ridge. That was a few days ago, though. Perhaps of more note is that my friend has now been up Helvellyn at least once every year in an unbroken sequence since 1959.
