Hi all.

An Italian friend of mine is currently working in Bradford hospital and seeing as she has just arrived she's having some difficulty finding her way around. She has no car and would like to spend her weekends walking around the dales etc... I'd love to help her meet some good, safe people or at least help her to understand the transport options which seem quite limited. Any help or suggestions very welcome. Thank you.

With regard to car-free travel you can get from Bradford (Forster Square) to the Settle-Carlisle Line quite easily (change at Shipley) which gives you access to some nice bits of the Dales?

I think you'd be better off enquiring with your local walking or mountaineering clubs rather than someone off an internet forum - for safety - no offence but anyone could rock up here and you won't know them from Adam!

Yes I agree, but if by chance there are some responses from groups it could be quite useful. If anyone knows of any clubs in that area please let us know. Thanks

The Ramblers group would be the go-to organisation for ramblers and they have some volunteers that may organise walking events.

Dales Walking Buddies on Facebook

There's a group of all ages but mostly seniors (I believe) called the Wednesday Wanderers that do train trips out to the dales and (used to / may still) hire a bus as a group: email wednesdaywanderers@outlook.com

I might offer my services but am pretty much dedicated to full weekends further afield in run up to my ML.

I think current covid restrictions mean that Ramblers groups are not excepting visitors on walks. Only group members. Please don't shoot the messenger.
