Very good news. Deet is nasty stuff, requires regular application and damages a lot of plastic walking and climbing equipment. I have some old Avon  'skin so soft' left that works OK (not as good as Deet) but the new formulation doesn't work.

Interesting article. I'd be interested to see something like this in the shops.

My current favourite is Smidge. I find it just about as effective as DEET based products but without all stinging of the eyes, numbing of the lips and melting plastics.

Still we can pretty much put the repellents away until next year. Here on the NW coast of Scotland there are a few midges, but very few and they don't seem to have their usual oomph. Perhaps they didn't recover well from the hot and dry spell in May - early July.

A researcher on the TV last week said Deet is still best and to avoid beer. They were looking at common factors in why some people are much less attractive to biting insects than others.
