Hi

I'm looking at camping at Low Hollows Farm between Threkeld and Scales this weekend.

Is there a path that goes to Scales from this camp site? I'm sure there is looking at the map but just wondered.

Sorry but it is my first time in this area

Have a look on OSM as well. Komoot uses OSM mapping and often shows mroe paths than maps do. However, they don't always exist unfortunately.

Do you mean a physical path or legal one? There's a right of way across the fields that starts down from the campsite near the River Glenderamackin. Looking at Where's the Path seems to show a path exists for part, but not all, of this RoW.

Alternatively, there is a pavement along the A66.

There appears to be.
I am guessing you do not have access to an OS map or you would not be asking this question. Try using Bing Maps which has a very useful OS layer, though you do have to be zoomed into a certain level for it to work.

Do you want a path to get to the pub and back in the dark? If so, I think the A66 pavement is your best bet (It's mostly segregated bike path, so not too bad). If it's as part of a Blencathra loop, you could drop down to Guardhouse and along paths from the river bridge (I've not walked that way, but I know from experience that paths in this area may not actually exist). There is a path all the way along the fence line where open access starts, but I'm not sure you can access it through Doddick farm.

Another useful resource to determine if a path exists on the ground (whether it's a right of way or not) is the Strava heat map.  You need to be logged in to see a useful level of detail I think.

I find this free site useful for finding paths if you don't have a map.

Many thanks

And to all other replies.

I wasn't sure if there was a footpath down the main road but that looks like the easiset option.
