I’m thinking of a hill walk on the way down the M74/M6 on Saturday. I’ve not done the Corbetts behind Moffat, so they look like strong contenders- but would like it to involve a bit of snow, so does anyone know what sort of coverage they’ve got at present...?

I went for a run on the Lamington Hills near Culter Fell at the weekend.

Good snow cover from about 400m. Maybe ankle deep but a lot more in the drifts.

Moffat hills aren't too far away and a lot higher so I'd be surprised if there was not good cover.

Picture on my Instagram from the trig point should give you an idea https://instagram.com/p/Bb7Z-bFHuRP/

Big thaw sunday night.

Fortunately CML can't get near these cams...

Drove through there on Monday morning at about 08:00 and there was good cover. Couldn't tell you how deep but there was plenty white stuff.

Coomb Craig Ridge (I)

Coomb Craig ridge is also a nice route to consider, depending on conditions.

That looks interesting- I didn’t realise there was a winter route on it...

Looks quite airy in the photos!

It's quite exposed near the top and very turfy lower down.

I'd probably want an axe with me if there was good snow cover.

And the answer was... all gone by the time I got there. A few slushy patches left but that was all. Did Hart Fell in the end, a nice autumn hillwalk with a very impressive east face to the long ridge running south- looked at the top of coomb Craig ridge, but completely black, winter has gone for now.

Very good fish and chips in Moffat though...
