Hi there,

As it turns out, the internet doesn't know everything - or at least what I'm looking for is proving hard to find. I can't seem to source the newsletter or magazine which featured a short story of two hill walkers. I think it was titled 'Mister Mephisto' and followed the two walkers as they were besieged by midges with a bottle of Talisker. One of them sold his soul for the night etc etc. Ring any bells? The last I read of it was on a long retired Hotmail account, long since deleted. I'm sure it was a hill walking newsletter and I can imagine it being on the counter of some smaller outdoor shops. Any hints or advice appreciated.

Cheers

Can't directly help sorry, but it does sound like the kind of story you'd find in the Angry Corrie! (newsletter). They used to all be online (I've spent hours reading them!) but a search now shows they're offline. The editor, Dave Hewitt, sometimes frequents these parts, might be worth punting him a PM.

Here you go - Kevin's right, it was in TAC. Written by Gordon Smith and published in 1995. Suitably festive for the time of year, too:

The online version of the whole thing - well, minus the final couple of issues - can be found here these days:

Funnily enough that same issue, TAC22, is the one with the Jacqueline Greaves story on the cover (as per another UKC thread just now):
