User Options

You can use your User Options to tailor the Forums to your own preferences.

To help you target your questions, answers and arguments, the forums are as follows:

My Topics

This forum shows all the topics that you've replied to or bookmarked. It shows the latest topics by default but you can search further into the past by clicking on the Include Older Topics button.

UKC

The forum used by UKC Staff for News Items, Articles and to make general announcements. Only UKC Staff can start a thread in this forum although all registered users can reply. This forum is heavily moderated and, although we welcome discussion, please make it positive and on the topic of the threads. These forum messages are embedded in to our News and Articles pages, integrating the forum comments in to the actual editorial parts of the site. Consequently this isn't the place for the 'This isn't news', or 'I bet it's not really E9', comments. Please keep those to ROCKTALK or one of the other forums.

Rockfax

A forum for supporting the Rockfax Digital subscriptions, UKC Logbooks and Rockfax books and data. Please contact us at app@rockfax.support if having problems with your Rockfax Digital subscription.

Rocktalk

A general forum for topics relating to climbing. This is the place to debate things like specific routes, ethics, grading, styles of ascent, top roping, headpointing, bouldering, bolts, the latest news and anything else that you have an opinion on. The only caveat is that the topic shouldn't be too trivial, keep the really light-hearted climbing stuff in the Pub.

Hilltalk

A general forum for topics relating to hillwalking. Discuss walks you have been on, great scrambles, the best ridges, Munro-bagging and longer multi-day walks.

Starting Out

A forum for asking questions, whether you are deciding to get into climbing or have just started and need something explained. UKClimbing.com is visited by many experienced climbers, including climbing and mountaineering guides, who will gladly help out. Please check the Climbing Skills category before posting. If you post here and received rude or condescending replies then please contact the moderators

Bouldering

The place to discuss your latest boulder problem, your next trip to Font, or which grading system should we use anyway. As long as it doesn't involve a rope, then this is the place to talk about it.

Expedition & Alpine

Planning an overseas expedition or your first trip to the alps? Get your information here for travel, logistics, bureacracy, equipment and techniques.

Destinations

Rock climbing destinations Q&As. Interested in visiting a new rock climbing area? Having difficulties finding information? You are almost guaranteed that someone here will have been and can give you some pointers. It might be sun rock in Sardinia or sport routes in Switzerland. Where to stay, when to go, what routes to do.

Walls & Training

Find out where the best climbing wall is in your area. Who goes there? What are the facilities like? Build your own cellar. Training tips and injuries info. It's all here. (Don't forget to check the Listings which contain the UK's most comprehensive online database of climbing walls.)

Gear

Post all your gear-related questions here. Discussion on technical climbing gear, clothing, bags, rock shoes, walking boots, tents, basically any kind of outdoor-related gear.

Crag Access

This forum is for discussion of issues relating to local areas. It can be for discussing ongoing access situations, for flagging up crag restoration and clean-up initiatives, and discussion relating to BMC Area Meetings. Please report any new access problems direct to the BMC.

Politics

A forum for non-climbing-related political topics. This is an opt-in forum hence it is only visible to registered users who choose to view it. Threads are archived and never deleted. The nature of the discussion may mean that threads contain a wide range of political opinions although anything bordering on hate speech will not be tolerated.

Off Belay

A forum for general non-climbing discussions and debate. Discuss society, sport whatever you feel like on this popular forum. Please keep non-climbing political matters in the Politics forum. Please keep the trivial and extra light-hearted stuff in The Pub.

Running

Everything to do with running be it trail running, fell running and road running. Gear, techniques, great runs you have done - this is the place for all that.

Biking

A forum dedicated to two wheel pursuits. Both road bike and mountain bike activities can be discussed here. Where to go, cycling tips, and of course the all-important bike gear discussions.

Skiing

A forum dedicated to discussions about skiing on or off-piste, ski mountaineering, snowboarding or anything that involves sliding down the mountains instead of climbing up them.

Winter Climbing

From Scottish gullies to Rjukan ice falls, this is the forum to discuss everything involved with winter climbing. Conditions, what's in and what's not, avalanche risk, recommended routes plus accounts of your exploits.

Photography

This is the place for all discussions relating to cameras and outdoor photography. Discuss the latest digital camera or have long discussions over the merits of one of the many thousands of photographs in the UKC Photo Galleries.

Culture Bunker

A forum dedicated to reviews and discussion of media and the arts. Just read a book? Why not share it by writing a review. Love music? Want to critique the latest releases? The Culture Bunker is the place. Seen a play or a film? Let's hear about it. This is the place to come if you are looking for a book, album or film recommendation.

The Pub
