Spare a thought for your ancestors. 75 years ago today the British 21st Army Group was lined up to cross the Rhine on the night of 23rd/24th March.

Bonus for Weegies – the crossing of your local regiment is commemorated in music.

At 0200 on 24th March the 10th Highland Light Infantry (HLI) crossed at Xanten in Buffalo armoured amphibious vehicles. The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) recruited mainly from Glasgow and the Scottish Lowlands and the 10th HLI barracks was on Maryhill Road.
