Can anyone suggest an insurance company that will give me Class 1 business insurance for a VW campervan?
I am a self employed outdoor instructor. I travel from place to place to work but I do not carry passengers. I only carry my own personal equipment. The campervan that I am thinking of buying has been professionally converted by a reputable company and it has been reclassified by the DVLA as a campervan. So it’s all legal. Specialist campervan / motorhome insurance companies that I have spoken to so far are happy to inure me and said campervan for social & domestic use only, not for me to use to travel between my different work places. Van insurance companies will not insure it under a commercial van policy it’s no longer a “van”. Help!!

In reply to Ruth Clark: Ring up and discuss with either Safeguard insurance or Axa insurance Both have insured our campervan and Axa may be more willing as they have insured our van which is 22 years old with RAC cover as well Good considering its age Not tried for business though.

Try NFU, when I was looking at van insurance they seemed by far the most helpful, very competitive. Having had an accident since as well, they were great in getting us and the van home again!

Seem happy to insure "unusual" situations - when I was asking about the self conversion they quizzed on what I'd done, then said it was fine - nothing compared to some "converted" farm vehicles the have do deal with. This was when other specialist van companies flat out refused to insure for various (mainly spurious) reasons!

Cheers,

Stuart

My camper is insured with Adrian Flux. No hassle or millions of questions over usage and conversion, and not a horrific premium either (about £400 I think)

I have the same issue - have a self-build van that is insured for work - very few policies out there and I got it down to two - I am with Comfort Insurance, which was the cheaper of the two.
