/ Electric car window problem
Drivers side lock on my two door polo has been getting stiffer and stiffer and from about 6 months ago wont turn at all and have to unlock from passenger side... not a big problem.
Last winter though my electric windows stopped working then started working again in spring. This year they have stopped working again. The passenger side occassionally works but only when controlled from passenger door but its probably only 1 in 10 attempts.
So do we think elelectric windows is related to the lock... and do i need a mechanic or an auto-electeician... fuses look fine
Could be corrosion causing things to seize, or water ingress causing the electric motors to fail but also lock corrosion? Do you get a "click" from the motor when you operate the window button?
The window is probably damp in the switch gear or something swelling up and jamming the mechanism in the wetter months. The lock, damp crud in the mechanism perhaps.
I'd go auto-electrician, they'll be more than capable of stripping the door to get to the bits and quicker at diagnosing and fixing electrical gremlins than a less specialised mechanic. If it just needs a clean and some grease I'm sure they'll be happy to do that too.
No noticeable 'click' i dont think. I'll check when i drive later

On my Volvo there is a. Electric window ‘pack’ that can wear out. Mine was easy to remove and clean and to replace yourself if needed.
I you tubed the make and model of the car.
9 times out of 10 it is the drivers door switch pack on the polos. Sometimes they can be pulled apart and cleaned up to work again. Not expenseve new. £30 ish i think. If your near lancashire let me know and i can take a look for you.

If there doesn't seem to be any movement, I'd err towards it being an electrical problem too.
Separate problems. Same source: water.
Washing components through with meths picks up the water and carries it out but it's a temp fix and too many repeats tends to degrade lube or insulation. Door spares like solenoids, runners, window seals and so on are out there and not too difficult to fit. Lock parts can be more complicated and many can be dealer only. Watch out for airbag precautions and possible need for airbag sensor reset after removal and refitting. Try Autodoc for parts online.
I had to fix our Zafira window (wouldn't close) in a layby on the A9 with a very heavy storm approaching - race against its approach. Vauxhalls seem to have popout switch assemblies that can be cracked open and cleaned like the old Commodore Pet keyboards, conductive rubber contacts on PCB. A little Isopropanol when we got home and it's been good ever since. Same treatment on the stupid electric back hatch opening switch though it's a pain getting the trim off to access it.
The A9 fix was done with a camping cutlery knife and fork and a tissue and meths - it had to work for me as I was being blamed for opening the window in the first place!
