It was yesterday down here in East Sussex!! We tried to enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake in the sun in the back garden and they were everywhere. The air was full of thousands of the little critters. Texted a couple of mates in neighbouring villages and they were experiencing it too.

Any other parts of the country affected?

Yeah loads of them in Sheffield.

One dropped through the Velux onto my bed. I thought I had bed bugs or some other disgusting plague in my bedding for a minute!

Swallows loving life in Kendal yesterday. They'll all be signing up for slimming world....

The flying ants were out about 10 days ago in Mid Devon. It's unusual for any part of Devon to be ahead of the curve.

Flying Ant Day arrived very suddenly, and somewhat annoyingly, at about 14:00 today, at Reiff.

To be fair, it was preceded by the onset of Flying Porpoise Day, just a couple of hours earlier - so I can't really moan.

There's nothing wrong, in principle, with celebrating 'Flying Ant Day' - except that some idiot went and told the ants.

Screwed up my fishing last night on Clywedog! The trout were obsessed with them and ignored all my imitative offerings.
