How are your local Ash trees?

How are your local Ash trees looking?

Round my part of the South Lakes the majority of them are not looking too good. There are a few smaller ones with new growth showing, but lots of them don't seem to be doing anything. From memory they should be in full spring mode by now: new leaves basking in the sunshine.

Poor things, they are one of my favourite trees.

It is still early for Ash to be in leaf, especially in the North. Give it another 2 to 3 weeks.

I have a mature Ash in the garden, it is not yet in leaf (on the South Coast). Smaller saplings beneath it have only had leaves for a week.

Here in SW France the ash are well advanced, no mistake. The oak still a bit tentative.

Ash b4 the oak. And yes we are getting traditional spring soaking.

Fingers crossed they are just about to spring into life.

Our one is abit slow but has definitely had new buds because the pigeons have been eating them.

and some say that ash keys are fit for human consumption - they just have to be pickled when when tender (or some'at)
