Does anyone know why the section of the M5 northbound has reduced lanes at the junction with the M42. It has been reduced since the smart motorway works were completed but there doesn’t seem to be anything being done to that part of road at all.

It causes a real delay during busy periods. Might ease the frustration if the reason behind it was known!

I have heard that it is a design to encourage users to divert around the M5 as there is a lot of work taking place further on.

Could it all be an evil plot by Kidderminster to force people off the motorway to go and visit them? There aren't too many other reasons to visit Kiddy it must be said. ;-)

No its to keep people from the south west out of Solihull ;-)

In reply to mhawk:

It's still nearly always quicker to go up the M42 - however I approve of people being sent another way, particularly on a Friday when the weight of M40 traffic slows the traffic past Shirley and Solihull to a snails pace.

You're thinking about the wrong junction as the cones force cars to go towards Solihull.
