I've been following this for the last 5 days. Currently 105,000 acres and not showing signs of abating.
No point me giving all the details just read the conversation on Supertopo from start to finish.

In reply to Enty: I was there for 4 weeks from May to June. It'll be devastating if it hits the valley, such an amazingly special place. Fingers crossed they get it under control in time. Good luck to all and stay safe everyone.

Thank you for posting the film. That is a very large fire. It is hard to imagine the retardant laid by the two planes would make much difference, looking at it.

Looking at the map - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23806626 (bottom of story) - it seems that the main fire area is to the north west of the valley itself, closer to Hetch Hetchy. A big area ablaze though.

We were staying in Big Oak Flat, about 7 -10 miles west of Groveland, and commuting into the valley from a cabin. The fire seemed to start up from an overlook (the rim view) a few miles further east.

Our location, Yosemite Pines may have been consumed,

Photo's on ST which show the pyrocumulus plume from the Meadows shows how immense it is - even Tahoe, way, way to the north is smokey....

While you don't see them that stretch of Highway, and further out into the sticks has lots of homes either side. While many are holiday homes, lots aren't and where that fire has been, there will be nothing left.

It's been suggested that if/as it heads north west it will encounter more rock, less timber and run out of steam - let's hope that's before it reaches Tuolumne.

Carson is east of Tahoe and a bit further North.

It's about 2 hrs drive north from Lee Vining to Tahoe - about 100 miles.

Very sad this. It's picked up again on it's SE and NE flank towards the Sequoias and Hetch Hetchy.

It is pretty grim - this site http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3660/ lets you download *.kml files showing the perimeter at various dates that can be overlaid onto Google earth.
It looks as if Hetch Hetchy reservoir is very much in the line of fire and it is alarmingly close to Big Oak Flat (the usual western entrance to the valley)

In reply to Enty: been climbing at lovers leap for the past few weeks. Back end of this week our tent was covered in ash every day and the sky full of smoke. A nuclear winter came to mind.u
