I see that several in the music & entertainment industry are changing their names to ensure that anything unacceptable or inappropriate is removed.

Shouldn't Neil Young change his, as it is clearly now a misrepresentation?

So should Alice Cooper. I bet he's been nowhere near a barrel workshop.

Kanye West should change his to something snappy, like Tw*t.

Noddy Holder. I hope that's not a job description.

Sonic Youth, in their latter days when hassled by journalists about their name, used to cite Neil Young as some kind of excuse, as he was even older than them. Not a problem for them now. As ever, Neil is helpless...

Neil Diamond. Soft as shite!

Seems a bit odd to me that the Dixie Chicks felt awkward about their name enough to drop the word "Dixie" but as women still find the term "Chicks" acceptable.

Perhaps an example of freely adopting the derogatory language of the oppressor, reclaiming it as one element of an empowered group identity?  I could work a few more cliches into it, but I'm sure someone's done it already, & better.

 Tom Valentine 27 Jul 2020
In reply to dgbryan:

Or maybe when they formed they actually saw themselves as chicks but thirty years down the line they are just hanging on to that notion by a word.

Perhaps they should just shut up and sing....

Ah well, in that case they have my sympathy.

Can't help but notice your main ire is reserved for women (yet) again.  Misogynist much?  Maybe you should simply shut up.

I think you missed Tom V’s reference to their back-catalogue

 Tom Valentine 28 Jul 2020
In reply to Blanche DuBois:

Please list all my previous slights against women on UKC or do the shutting up yourself.

I'm actually a big fan of the girls and , as Greenbanks realised, my comment was a reference to a previous occasion when apologising for their origins got them into hot water ( or one of them, at least)
