Can anyone recommend some podcasts for my walks to work? I'm looking for interesting ones like news, the economy, science, history etc.

The walk is about 30 minutes so plenty of time to fill over the week.

I'd probably be downloading them from iTunes unless someone knows a good way to download them on an android phone.

there are various podcast apps for android, most of which will provide offline. However i still go the separate device route so cant comment on them beyond that.
Depending on your android version you may also be able to use google play music. Can handily be set to swipe all the songs and podcasts from itunes on your computer and then either stream or use download to phone.

history of rome (finished now but a shedload of episodes).
History network (somewhat mixed).
12 Byzantine rulers (again finished) and a newer, somewhat sporadic one. norman centuries.
More or less - for stats and the like.

depending on how much you want to think there is also itunes uni where you can grab various lectures.

There are so many now, most Radio 4 programmes can be downloaded - so things like From our own Correspondent, Analysis, The Report, Documentary of the Week etc might all interest you.

I follow US politics and culture quite closely, if you're interested then the Slate podcasts are good - fun and you'll learn stuff - Political Gabfest, Culture Gabfest, Double X etc.

From Australia (ABC) Rear Vision is superb for an in-depth look at something in the news, using real experts and giving them time to make their points.

Radiolab is absolutely brilliant radio making science super listening. Guardian science podcast is also good at keeping me as non-scientist up on some of the big stories in science.

This American Life is also excellent story telling (not always American as well ironically!). The Moth is good live story telling.

The Bugle for huge amounts of silliness; Kermode and Mayo for fun and film reviews...

How's that for going on with?

Someone else has discovered 'This American Life'! Well I'm happy to second the recommendation as it really is a cracking hours listening. The only issue is that errr.. 'officially' you can only get the previous week episode but there are ways to get the entire 480ish episodes.The ones on the financial crisis are superb.

"The Giant Pot of Money" Yes, some of the best radio EVER. I was jogging round Stockholm when listening the first time (I neither jog nor go to Stockholm that often so it was memorable) and just kept jogging it was so good.

The Bugle is not only the best podcast I listen to but the best program of any type.

If you like sport then Guadian football weekly, Fighting talk and Football ramble are good.

A lot of people like Answer Me this, I enjoyed it but never feel compelled to download it.

I've just started listening to /filmcast which I prefer to the Mark Kermode one.

I liked NPR It's All Politics but haven't listened as much since the end of the US election but the two guys on it are engaging

Started on the Infinite Monkey today which was very interesting, definitely going to work my way through them. Makes the walk all the more interesting and drowns out the traffic.
