Anyone used them. I've got a midnight arrival at Stansted next month and a few airmiles so I thought I might book a night instead of driving home in the small hours.

Are they as smart as they look? Will they look down their noses at somebody turning up in trekking clothes and lugging a dusty ME Kitbag? ;0)

In reply to mypyrex: Dunno, but I stopped a night in the Holiday Inn Express in Harlow before a flight from Stansted recently and would recommend it. Lovely big room for 3 of us, nicely appointed, decent breakfast and only £50. It's about 12 miles south of Stansted and easy to get to from the M11.

They're fine. Nothing spectacular but perhaps a notch above a Holiday Inn Express or a Premier Inn. The one at Manchester Airport is hideously over-priced for what it is though (compared to other hotels nearby). Other than a fancy blue bridge connecting you to T1, it's very average.

One or two others I've stayed in are decent though. They're not good enough to be snotty about someone turning up in trekking clothes though.

In reply to Submit to Gravity: I've looked at the Stansted Radisson and apparently you can walk(2mins) from the terminal straight to the hotel so I was thinking that I'll leave my car in the longstay park and pick it up after a good kip. Plus, using my airmiles, I won't have to pash hard cash.

The Stansted Radisson is where it is so it can service the airport. I would have thought they were totally used to people turning up at all hours wearing whatever clothes they travelled in.

Radisson hotels are fine.

You don't get a porn channel in the British ones though.

Might be cheaper to book as a combined parking and hotel deal.

A night in a hotel and 9 days parking worked out cheaper than just parking for us when we went abroad recently.

We used the Stansted one in April en-route between Kalymnos and Ariege. You can walk there in a couple of mins from the terminal. We thought it was reet posh but we had just spent a month in the wilderness. We arrived around midnight - it was buzzing and there was no probs being 'casually' dressed.

Other than the one in islamabad, theyre fine. Lots of middle management folk working towards a position that gets them the hilton, so often hot wives with them with nothing to do during the day....

In reply to mypyrex: Nearly stayed at one in Edinburgh, but the lack of being able to park within several miles and an additional £16 a head for breakfast put me off.

The spa in the central Manchester one is very good according to my wife.

I try and stay at a Radisson if I can, especially if it's a city I don't know well. Pretty reliable and smart (but not posh), and feel a bit less corporate than most of the chains (or maybe it's a sort of scandinavian corporate that I like). As others have said, the Manchester one isn't special and seems to be under permanent reconstruction, but I occasionally use it if I have a stupidly early flight.

In reply to All: Thanks for comments. I've booked the Stansted oneIt did have trouble, though, explaining by email that 00:30 (as in the 24 hour clock)referred to half past midnight and not half past midday ;o(

In reply to mypyrex: If you are flying from Stanstead, you might be able to get a week or so of parking in with the hotel price.

In reply to ByEek: As I said before I am not "paying" for the hotel and my parking is booked at £63. That compares VERY favourably with Radissons parking rates. No brainer.
