Very sad news from the Craggy Island website...

It is with much sadness and regret that we need to announce that Rob Mitchell, one of the founders of Craggy Island has passed away after a long illness.

Rob was a people person and climbing was a huge part of his life. Rob loved Craggy and the all the wonderful people – staff and climbers – that have passed through its doors over the years.

He will be hugely missed for all the kindness, laughter and his unique brand of madness he brought to us all.

In these uncertain times, it is not possible to have an open funeral but we intend to have a celebration of his life that we can all attend when circumstances allow.  We would love to give him the send off he deserves.

Pip and his boys would like to say that if anyone would like to make a donation in his memory, there are two charities that meant a great deal to Rob.

Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care – whose Care at home team looked after him and the family so compassionately:

Climbers Against Cancer:

A message from Rob’s family:

Climbing was Rob’s passion and his unending enthusiasm for the whole Craggy Island family including Guildford, Sutton and Wild Wood brought him immense pleasure.

We are all so incredibly proud of what he achieved and the legacy he leaves behind.

We would like to thank all the staff and climbers who have supported Craggy Island over the years and who have helped create such a special community.

Pippa, Frankie, James and Ben

RIP mate.
