Heard about this on the radio this morning: a supernova visible using a half decent astronomy telescope. The light has been travelling 21 million years to reach us:

Yes, post-climbing last night we stood outside the pub gazing at the moon and Venus. The pub was the Moon, obviously.

A single, prolonged cosmic emission from the constellation Nigelus Farragius scuppered that one!
