on the subject, anyone know is it OK to feed fruit and grapes to Blackbirds?  we have one that is accustomed enough to come and ask for food so I sometimes give him a grape or piece of a pear (if I'm eating one at the time).  He then takes them to stick down the gob of his offspring often in plain sight.   I'd have thought they'd get plenty of variety at the moment with slugs and worms in good supply.

Will be interesting to see who replaces him, he brought a sense of fun to the show since Bill Oddie left.

On the subject of Springwatch presenters I do find myself zoning out when they do a section presented by Gillian Burke - def not a natural in front of a camera

Birds would have taken fruits from hedges or orchards so I would not be too worried.

they have again nested in the wysteria above my back door (as they do). last year the tiny chicks were fed cherries from the tree next door- they have quite a gape..
