As part of a deal negotiated in 2011, the Sovereign Grant (essentially the Queen's funding as Head of State) is calculated as:
- 15% of the profits from The Crown Estate in the previous year, OR
- the Sovereign Grant for the previous year
, whichever is the greater. (i.e. the Sovereign Grant cannot decrease from one year to the next, even if The Crown Estate were to make a loss. Handy, eh?)

As a result of profits made by The Crown Estate in the last year the amount paid to the Queen will increase from £36.1m in 2013 to £37.89m 2014, a pay rise of 4.8% (approx £34k/week). The balance of the profits go to The Treasury.

I'm guessing it's not means-tested...

It gets better in feudal Cornwall when someone dies without a will their estate is passed onto the deserving Charles.

Cannot believe it's not a bigger story.

And yet:

http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/Factfiles/Royalfinances.aspx
13. Although The Queen's estate will be subject to Inheritance Tax, bequests from Sovereign to Sovereign are exempt*. This is because the Sovereign is unable to generate significant new wealth through earnings or business activities, and to recognise the requirement for the Monarchy to have a degree of financial independence.

*in other words, when Charles eventually inherits Balmoral, he won't pay Inheritance Tax

Did you see the "report" on the BBC website? Basically a press release from the CE with no challenge or anything.

In reply to Saor Alba:

It also repeats the often-heard claim from The Crown Estate that it owns the land under its jurisdiction. It doesn't; it administers it but the Queen is the legal owner.

In reply to Douglas Griffin: So the queen pays 85% tax on the profit she makes? That's outrageous!
In reply to TMM: it's amazing how you've managed to read just the bits you want to!!

qoute: "The Prince of Wales does not, however, keep any of the money; instead it is distributed in charitable donations through the Duke of Cornwall’s Benevolent Fund, with a small amount kept in reserve for any future claims on unclaimed estates. "

surely you don't take issue with unclaimed estates passing to Charity?

depends on the charity really. Seems to be some self interest in those chosen.
