In reply to Bottom Clinger:

So you are a mortal photographer after all!
But those barn owl shots were a treat.

Mortal photographer - most defo.

I’m thinking about getting my proper camera on a tripod with slow shutter speed etc and getting a proper shot. I walked past 20 mins later and they had flown off. They nest (and live) in an odd hole/trench about one foot lower down in that photo. They then hop up out of their roost/nest and hang about and then fly off. But they are very stationary for a good while so it could work. Problem is, I broke my tripod!

Was that the title of the less popular Frankie Goes to Hollywood track?

I have reliable info of a long eared owl nest (if they are nest faithful that is) to stake out this spring, never set eys on one. Its all very exciting!

In reply to JJ Krammerhead III:

I’ve never seen one either - good luck.

In reply to Bottom Clinger:

Long eared owl is one of the winged thingies on my "to see" list. Actually all 5 UK owls are although I've seen tawny, little and short eared before.

In reply to Michael Hood:

There used to be long eared at Pennington (where I grew up) but I could never find them. One winter, 3 short eared lived in the fields that our house backed onto. Lots being seen on the Dee estuary. And hen harriers (think they had a reasonable breeding year)

In reply to Bottom Clinger:

I had a short eared coast past me about 5m away when I was putting rock shoes on at the very far skyline bouldering at the Roaches a couple of years ago - magical

Flickr can be a right pain in the ass for new users (me), thought the whole point of Flickr was sharing pictures, D'oh!

Here is a link to my owl album, only 4 pictures in it, but all nice owls.
