I use Youtube for a lot of excellent content relating to think such as: guitar playing and maintenance, rock climbing, Indian housewives knocking up curries, music etc. I do however have some viewing delights I would not normally admit to in public...
For instance, Auditing Britain features a guy that goes around filming police stations and prisons etc.
youtube.com/watch?v=pCFsHqPPKkY&
I can't quite figure out if he is providing a genuine service or is just a complete bellend. Either way he is quite charismatic and its compelling viewing....
What are your YouTube guilty viewing pleasures?
I was at my mums the other day and her other half had the Auditing Britain guy on, he spent over an hour taking up the time of 3 firearms officers in London because the stopped to ask why he was filming a police station. It was quite an interesting exchange between them, but if I were the coppers commanding officer I'd be giving him a hard time for wasting police time...
I have indulged in the TV License visit videos in times gone by.
I've seen this guy.....he isn't actually 'auditing' anything.....he just seems to spend time irritating people and flying his drone over their factories, businesses etc.....
I enjoy a few of the travel type blogs people do....as well aswel as the usual outdoor/hills/climbing stuff...
People are awesome, is good.
Fail Army, is good for schadenfreude, as are many of the other fail blogs.
There is even a 'people are awesome vs fail army'.
Log fire 4k. Saves me loads on heating bills.

I seem to have become addicted to this guys gun channel. I've no real massive interest in guns* but I do enjoy his little lectures on the mechanics and development history of the featured firearms. He amusingly gets called Gun Jesus by his viewers. Something he's happy to play along with.
*I did have an air rifle when I was a kid.
Ok, so I clearly watch too many channels on a regular basis.
Just had a flick through my history and these all stood out. I wasn't expecting so many.
Each and every channel in this list is excellent (according to me anyway)
He seems to provoke a reaction
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-63136033.amp
Yup, one of my standbyes when the wife watches some drab Scandinavian crimi. As an engineer it's fascinating to see how incredibly complex machines can be developed to deliver under the restraints of usability, given to an idiot, thrown in a muddy puddle for a week then expected to kill people a kilometer away.
From muzzle loading to 6000 rounds a minute is a fair step.
My current guilty pleasure is a guy called Kevin Talbot.
I have recently taken an interest in Radio Control Cars, specifically for rock Crawling. This guys channel is all things RC and mainly running things to destruction.
> I use Youtube for a lot of excellent content relating to think such as: guitar playing and maintenance, rock climbing, Indian housewives knocking up curries, music etc.
Pretty much the same other than the "knocking up curries" bit...
I was going to question your lack of interest in curry, but then I saw you are a dill bothering Swede!
complete bellend
At least judging from the video you linked. I did a lot of skipping at the start and still only make it to 4 minutes where he seems to basically be trying to pick a fight with the police for no reason before I got too bored to continue. I found it to be the opposite of compelling viewing, but I guess that is what differing tastes are all about.
And god yes do I watch a lot of garbage on youtube but I'm not about to admit to what it is on UKC!
So called "auditors" are the absolute dregs. Touring around and irritating people who are going about their business, then acting affronted when the people they're trying to annoy get annoyed. Pure trash.
Not far off real auditors then!
Another Gun Jesus fan, the episode on the MK1 Bren is excellent.
> Fail Army, is good for schadenfreude, as are many of the other fail blogs.

Over 100 videos?! Can't quite believe it.
Based on a couple of things in that list I think you'll like Key and Peele of you don't watch them already.
this is sometimes described as "like the old topgear, but for bikes".
that's totally wrong, it's leagues better than topgear ever was:
Forgotten weapons is great
I watch a lot of Swedwoods, which is footage of a Swedish bloke going camping. He never talks, just walks, canoes, camps and cooks, and films it beautifully
I'm always watching Storror to and have been for some time. It can occasionally be a little cringe but it's always hugely impressive and they're great athletes to watch.
I'm a bit addicted to the Fail blog / car crash compilations, the ones where people walk away from something that should have been fatal. Definitely a guilty pleasure.
On the geeky side, Mikeselectricstuff. Lots of this sort of thing on YouTube, but most of it is boring and / or aimed at morons.
Thank you for this opportunity to confess youtube.com/watch?v=6naWCw5LSPc&

AH YES! A lot of these have been appearing on my youtube feed and I find myself getting drawn into them. I find the subject really interesting
They tend to fall into two camps though: Obnoxious tw*ts who shove a camera in someone's face and seem intent on provoking and getting a reaction just for the views, and the other ones who are polite, courteous and have seem to genuinely want to protect the rights of street photographers, drone pilots, public access and to educate people on their rights, and also about how to remind over zealous security guards that a hi-viz vest and an SIA badge doesn't suddenly equate you to a police officer
I've watched a couple from Auditing Britain, but I particularly like DJ Audit (and it's because of his that I'm itching to buy a bloody drone...)
There are a couple of other ones I would really recommend that you watch:
The old fella out to annoy some clueless Golden Wonder security guards:
youtube.com/watch?v=BjTBYdJwQ4I&
Street photographers interacting with City of London police officers and security guards / managers. Really constructive I thought, very helpful for both sides
youtube.com/watch?v=FJH9F7Hcluo&
And a really impressive piece with Ken Livingstone pushing back against the law...
A bit of SUAT too...bringing dance and joy and music to the masses (and then getting chased by security guards)
Those "auditors" generally seem to be arseholes.
As per others Forgotten weapons is amusing to bing from time to time.
Skallagrim for slightly older weapons.
Lockpicking lawyer for feeling really insecure.
Best though is
Plane crashes. Lots of plane crashes.
> but if I were the coppers commanding officer I'd be giving him a hard time for wasting police time...
Or maybe giving his three firearms officers a hard time for wasting police time questioning someone filming a police station...?
ps. I haven't seen any of these videos. He sounds like a dickhead.
> Plane crashes. Lots of plane crashes.
Do you mean actual crash footage, or the ones reconstructed on MS Flight Simulator from real time telemetry and audio recordings. Why are they so bloody fascinating...
> Or maybe giving his three firearms officers a hard time for wasting police time questioning someone filming a police station...?
I would be asking why they didnt have a convenient ND.
There is a reason though why I shouldnt be trusted with weapons or a position of authority.
No, real plane crashes. Black box recordings of "we're all gonna die..... ". That sort of thing.
> No, real plane crashes. Black box recordings of "we're all gonna die..... ". That sort of thing.
I can get drawn into both to be honest.
Also, audio recordings of pilots and air traffic control having strops and hissy fits with each other.
Yes that's what I meant, sorry.
recently it's been a lot of combatveteranreacts, voicesofmusic, nicoleonard, perun, rickbeato, alexdowsett, denysdavidov, mentourpilot, thecharismaticvoice, jennielle, doughelvering, lostinvegas
Yeah Rick beato is great BUT this thread is about the trash on your subscription list!
This one is a cracker from my local five-oh. Neither party comes off well TBF!
Oh yeah, sorry, the only thing like that on there is Nico. A "why have I have come into this room?" moment.
For me it's Matt's Off-road Recovery and AVE/boltr.
I sometimes watch Undecided with Matt Ferrel but for some reason it often really annoys me, so I have to leave it a month or so between attempts.
Oh yeah I forgot - massive American heroes with smokers slathering meat with gloves on.
I like timelapse videos of lake effect snowfall. The way the objects on the ground gradually dissolve into a uniform layer is mesmerising. Especially over several days where there’s a diurnal heave/ho to it all.
Rufford Ford - thanks whoever sent that one!
My guilty pleasures are mostly Airshow related, or various things tooling round the Mach Loop.
Oh, or the Secret Vault sad explorery type stuff.
Epic NPC man by Viva La Dirt League for geeky RPG gaming satire.
Not Just Bikes for laments about poor car based city planning, makes me want to move to the Netherlands.
Map Men, map based shenanigans that I watch mainly for the dry humour of the presenting duo.
Another vote for Foil, Arms and Hogg, Irish comedy trio.
Used to cheer myself up watching people eat the really hot chillis but this is even better and much funnier😀
My daughters would tough it out too😀

"Smarter everyday" is quite good.
Also like the "like a boss" compilations.
Until you have kids, though, you don't realise how much utter rubbish is on there - how do people have the time to create such bilge as "content"?
I watch a few "good" channels; Hot Ones and various MTB'ers (despite being utterly rubbish on my bike).
Not sure I'd go as far as "trash" but I still regularly binge Jake & Amir, re-watching old-ones and still finding them funny.
Also Nick Lewis, interior designer - started watching when we started developing our house, but now just watch it for fun.
And randomly Darko Audio, even though I don't really care about HiFi...
I've missed the comedy and current affairs stuff off the list because it's pretty vanilla. I mostly like to watch people making things or solving puzzles, slowly. And mainly boats apparently! Embrace your inner weirdo.

My favourite thing on YouTube at the moment is Vagrant Holiday.
It’s an American chap with a great, dry sense of humour who flies to cities around the world, stealth camps in cities, travels around and does alternative point of view travel logs with commentary.
https://youtube.com/c/VagrantHoliday
It’s not confirmed but he’s reported to be the same person behind the Surveillance Camera Man videos which are also worth a watch - in these, he injects himself into conversations/social situations in public with a camera, doesn’t say anything and films their reactions. It’s strangely fascinating
Kays Cooking.

This was an excellent series. Probably only needs one more episode to finish it off. Hopefully they move on to something else as their production quality is excellent.
Not quite in the same league in terms of production, but the K24 engine in a Ferarri 308 is pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDBaiG0BtHluun67BgXgPRg/videos
Ah the good old days when Greg was the fat one...
> Not quite in the same league in terms of production, but the K24 engine in a Ferarri 308 is pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDBaiG0BtHluun67BgXgPRg/videos
I've been following that too but it's dropped off my recent recommendations so I've lost track. It's a fantastic looking car with the work he's done to it. I can't help but fear the four figure power target is a bit American when considering drivability and gearbox survival.
The Alfa-Ferrari project on Home Built By Jeff is worth a look, getting close to finished now.
Allan Milliard's channel is well worth a look if you want to be convinced it's easy to build Frankenstein's engine in a garden shed with not much more than a hacksaw, TIG and an encyclopedia of 80s bike parts for a brain.
jk
I've not noticed the Alfa-Ferrari project. Looks right up my street. I'm half? maybe? way through re-building a Jag E-type kit car so need all the inspiration I can get.
Nikocado avocado is bit of a mad watch, seems to be eating himself to death. It's a black mirror episode in real time.
>

Eating yourself to death?

I read somewhere, that he makes £10K a month doing audits and then putting them on his YouTube channel.
Great thread idea!
One personal favourite is “M539 restorations”
A euro dude called Sreten who restores neglected BMW’s. The saga with the Alpina B7 was fascinating and must have been incredibly frustrating and heart wrenching for him to go through! (Big problem with the supercharged V8…)
He comes across as an entertaining and personable chap and also his attention to detail and cleanliness does something for my OCD!
Remember those little Warhammer models we played with as kids? Elves and Orcs and shit, well there's whole youtube channels devoted to the lore!
It's sci-fi and fantasy at the same time, laser guns and titans, warp travel and xenos, augmented super solders with two hearts who can spit acid. Yet also featuring Gods, Demons and Hell, which is slowly corrupting and enveloping the galaxy's civilisations. The Humans are protected by a God Emperor's decaying corpse, sat on a golden throne for ten thousand years, fuelled by the sacrifice of a thousand human psychers every day.
The Eldar are a mighty civilisation fallen to deviant corruption, from the ruins of which manifested an evil sex Goddess who subjects dead Eldar souls to an eternity of masochism. The Orks are mushrooms engineered for war, the only thing that makes them happy is fighting. Trillions of space bugs are travelling to the galaxy intent on eating all biomatter to expand the hive. Not to mention the Tau, Necrons and Harlequins! The Harlequins and Orks are my favourites.
Warhammer? I had a girlfriend pal at school pal!
I was working for Games Workshop when 40K was first mooted. I played the first handwritten version, worked on its early development and a few of my paintjobs appear in 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions. The money I made working for them while at school greatly increased my success with the ladies. It is pure fempoison these days though.
I still like watching people paint miniatures and build model railways

I also love some rug cleaning or hoof trimming

And a bit of map stuff (which apparently means something else these days?)

Ha! Touché! I was in primary school when I played with them so a bit early to spoil any romance. I used to paint them but OMG I was bad at it. After a year or two of collecting I'd accumulated about 20 models, all second hand and not even in the same army. I think at this point I realised my new hobby was a bit on the expensive side and sold my puny collection.
To this day I can't walk past a Games Workshop without staring at the window display for 5 minutes.
As you put in guitar playing and maintenance have you checked out?
